Top-down sci-fi shooter. Play as a space marine shooting things!

Gameplay is probably as generic as it gets, ha.

Made for Godot Wild Jam #77

Alright, I just wanted an excuse to make a game that makes heavy use of Godot's 2D lighting system. Normal maps, specular maps, all that jazz. Turned out quite nice, if I do say so myself :)

"Metamorphosis" part comes mainly from in-game lore: main protagonist becomes an alien-human hybrid after death, reaching the next stage of evolution.

In-game lore was inspired by "Chrysalis" (short story by Ray Bradbury) and necromorphs from Dead Space. Mechanics loosely inspired by that one 11 hours long YT tutorial and various flash games from 2000-s.

I really liked this. The atmosphere is done well, the story/premise(idrk, im illiterate) is set up nicely at the start.

I do think the turrets need to have a longer reload time since they're the hardest things to deal with, or I'm just not very good at top downs.

For the infected I don't really feel like they're fast enough since you can kinda just walk backwards and deal with 'em really easily.

Overall though, really good game.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, the balance could use some work. Infected pose little to no threat as they are, and personally I found turrets trivial to deal with too once you find a corner or a crate to hind behind. You can also outrange them since bullets travel for a long distance, but turret vision is limited to 1-2 screens. In the end, I just thought making the game easy would be preferable for the jam format.

you did good with the lighting! I do wish there was more feedback when you shot enemies

Thanks!

I agree on the enemy damage feedback, I wanted to make a visual effect for when enemies get damaged by the shots, but ran out of time.
