THE TRIAL - Audio update
THE TRIAL gets an audio update!
This is the first, and most likely only, quality update for this game. Only 4 months after the jam!
One of the most noted issues from the comments was lack of music and sound effects, so here they are. This is my first attempt at building a dynamic soundscape, so it's not great, but I'm mostly satisfied with how it turned out. It's a good practice either way.
Changelog:
- Added sound effects for the entire game, made with sfxr (active) and LMMS (for moon glyph and monster themes)
+ Added active sounds for player (jump, attack, button click, death, respawn, etc.)
+ Added idle sounds for traps (moving spikes, saws, swinging axes)
+ Added slight droning sound for the glyphs, which gets loud and receives a variation on glyph reveal
+ Added "danger theme" that starts playing whenever there is a monster nearby
+ Added active sounds for the world events (sword pickup, new pressure plate activation)
- Added 4 background music tracks (music by Kevin MacLeod)
- Added a locked gate with a pressure plate in the trial level after the saw fall, so that the player would have to go to the side room first and not skip a story line there
- Added vignette effect, with special variation for nightmare level
- Improved terrain and character shading in nightmare and night levels
- The sword swing trail should be brighter than character sprite in nightmare level (barely noticeable)
- Added twinkling stars to the night level background
- The moon is now animated with a slow pulse
- Fixed some sprite scaling inconsistencies
- Adjust some text positions
- Added game icon
Original jam versions will be left available for download for historical reference.
If you've found and read this changelog - congrats! You're one of the few people that ever will :)
